Clip Recorder

Callie can record audio directly into a soundboard slot from any input device on your machine — handy for capturing voiceovers and other audio from an external source, or quick turnaround audio without leaving the app.

  1. Right-click an empty button in the grid and choose Record Clip…
  2. The Record Clip — Slot N modal opens and arms the recorder.

The modal provides:

  • Input Device — choose any available audio input. Changing the device re-arms the recorder.
  • Input Gain — adjust the recording level while watching the meter.
  • Count-in (3 s) — when enabled, recording starts after a 3-second count-in, shown as a large on-screen countdown. The setting is remembered between sessions.
  • Input Level — live input meter, with the sample rate, channel count and device name shown below.
  1. Press ● Record (or ● Starting in N… appears during the count-in).
  2. Press ■ Stop & Save to finish. The take is stored and placed in the slot as a normal clip.
  3. Cancel abandons the recording.

Once saved, the recording behaves like any other clip — set fades, loops, markers, gangs and triggers as usual.

On macOS, Callie needs microphone permission to record. The first time you open the recorder (or macOS first prompts), approve access for Callie. If recording shows no input level, check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and enable Callie, then reopen the record modal.

  • Watch the Input Level meter before recording — set Input Gain so peaks stay clear of clipping.
  • The count-in is useful when you need cue your talent before recording starts.
  • Recordings can be trimmed afterwards in the Clip Editor using IN/OUT markers, so don’t worry about a little silence at either end.
