Getting a License

Vector needs a license key. No layout opens and no scope measures without one, and there is no free tier.

Buy a key, or start the 10 Day Free Trial, at https://fetchmedia.tools/vector. The key arrives by email.

Activating a Key

Open the license manager from Menu → Help → Manage License, from Manage License… on the Preferences Output tab, or from a yellow Layout entry.

1. Paste your key into Enter License Key:.
2. Press Automatically Activate License. The button shows Requesting activation….

The Status Line

Status:	What it means
Licensed	Valid for this machine and this version
Verifying token…	Checking the token
Unlicensed	No token, or none activated
Unlicensed (trial expired)	The trial token has run out
Unlicensed (expired)	The license token has run out
Unlicensed (deactivated)	This machine has been deactivated for that key
Unlicensed (invalid token)	The stored token fails verification
Invalid token	The new token failed to verify. Server token invalid: {message} shows beside it in red

The window also shows Current License authentication expires on: {date} and License type: Perpetual, or License type: Time limited — {remaining} remaining.

Offline Activation

1. Press Save Request File. The Get Offline Request File dialog saves activation_request.fetchreq.
2. Upload that file at https://licensing.fetchmedia.tools.
3. Press Import Activation Token From File and open the returned token. The picker is titled Open activation_token.lic, and accepts lic and json.

Moving to Another Machine

1. On the machine you are leaving, press Deactivate This Device. The button shows Deactivating…. When the key in the field differs from the stored one, the window adds Note: deactivation uses the license key from the installed token.
2. Activate the same key on the new machine.

A key moves between devices at most three times in a rolling six-month window. The fourth is refused with Move limit reached (3 per 6 months). Please contact support.

If Something Goes Wrong

Every message here shows in red as Error: {message}, in the same window.

• Error: Please paste your license key first — the button is live with an empty field.
• Error: License key is not for this product (expected 0061) — the key belongs to another product, and a Laika key will not validate.
• Error: Computing device fingerprint, please try again in a moment — this machine’s identifier was not ready. Press the button again.
• A layout will not open on a window showing Licensed. A click is gated on a silent check as well as the license, and a token that fails it shows the entry in ordinary ink.
• The license expires early. The token’s clock watermark only moves forward, so a clock put back makes a valid token read as expired. Set the clock right and reopen Vector.
