Getting Started

A fresh install needs a license key. After that: add a source, choose a page, set a scope, go fullscreen.

Until you enter a key, Vector opens on 1x1, a page it does not ship. The header shows Layout: 1x1 and a yellow Product not licensed, and the grid shows a red Layout ‘1x1’ not found.

Every Layout entry is yellow, and a click opens the license manager. Enter a key from Menu → Help → Manage License and the four shipped pages become selectable.

  • From the menu. Open Menu → Sources, click Refresh Sources, then click a feed. Each row shows {name} ({url}), so two feeds with the same name stay apart.
  • From the strip. Click a slot cell’s + and pick a feed, or read No source is offered when discovery has found nothing.

A feed goes to the empty active tile, or to the first free slot. The rows grey out once all five slots are full.

Menu → Layout lists four pages:

  • Colorist (6 viewers) — the grading set: HML Balance and the color cube above waveform, vectorscope and CIE plot.
  • DIT (6 viewers) — a large picture with false color, skin tone, the neutral finder, waveform and vectorscope.
  • QC (11 viewers) — the checking page: error log, flicker heatmap and an audio strip.
  • Broadcast (7 viewers) — preview and timecode with surround meters, goniometer and audio strip.

The number counts tiles, not feeds. Every page holds the same five slots, so QC (11 viewers) measures one feed eleven times.

Right-click a scope tile, or use Menu → View → Scope Properties. The Type row lists all 29 kinds, and any tile can become any of them. A Color row appears under Type when a kind offers more than one coloring.

Every pixel makes the scope measure the whole frame, exactly and more slowly, instead of the 1080p default. It is set per scope, and on 4K it is the difference between a proxy reading and a real one.

Menu → File → Layout Designer panel docks the designer on the right. Drag a box to move it, drag a corner to resize it, click a title bar to select it. Snapping works to box edges and then the grid, and the grid switch is 1% or 5% with Show Grid.

The Widgets section places clocks, dates, studio clocks, logos, external audio bars, text and the LTC timecode scope. To add another scope kind, copy a page that already has one, through Save As or a clone over the web control API, and change its Type. Layout Designer has the rest.

A settled drag is saved on its own. Save in the designer asks for the save, and ✓ Approve saves and leaves edit mode.

A built-in page is read-only, so Save on one opens Save Layout As pre-filled with {name} copy. Manage Custom Layouts shows the saved list. See Working with Layouts.

Menu → View → Fullscreen, or Cmd/Ctrl+F. The menus and the header hide, and they come back when the pointer reaches the top of the window. They stay for ten seconds after you leave.
