Quick Start - TLDR

Just want to measure something? Here’s the 60-second version.

  1. Install it — take the installer from the Fetch Media Tools website: an .msi on Windows, a .dmg on macOS, an AppImage on Linux.

  2. Launch it — the window opens maximised on the 1x1 layout an unlicensed window shows: Layout: 1x1 and a yellow Product not licensed in the header, and a red Layout ‘1x1’ not found across the grid.

  3. Put a key in — Menu → Help → Manage License, paste your key into Enter License Key: and press Automatically Activate License. The four shipped layouts become selectable once the key validates.

  4. Find your sources — Menu → Sources → Refresh Sources, then give discovery a few seconds. The menu shows the method in use, mDNS or Discovery Server, and lists each feed.

  5. Add a source to a slot — in the Sources Palette, press the + on a slot cell, or click a feed in the Sources menu. A feed fills a free slot and never touches a busy one.

  6. Place a scope — click a tile, or right-click to open the pane too, then choose from the Type row of the Scope Properties pane. All 29 kinds are there.

  7. Pick a layout — Menu → Layout lists Colorist, DIT, QC and Broadcast. All four present the same five slots, and a feed stays where you put it.

  8. Save it — you already have. A settled layout edit is saved straight away. To build a page of your own, open Layout Designer panel from the File menu.

  9. Go fullscreen — Menu → View → Fullscreen, or Cmd/Ctrl+F. Exit the same way.

  • Layouts and slots are different things. A layout is the page of scope tiles, and the five slots are the session’s feeds, the same five on every page.
  • The picture is one of the scopes. Preview, False Color, Skintone and Neutral are tiles like any other. Any scope can be any size, and the Designer sets it.
  • “Nothing opens and every layout is yellow.” The license state, not a crash. A yellow Layout entry opens the license manager on a click. See Getting a License.
  • “I don’t see any sources.” Menu → Sources → Refresh Sources. If the list stays empty, the label above it shows the method: mDNS for the local network, Discovery Server for a server you configure.
  • “My screenshot key does nothing.” Save scope screenshot has no keybinding. It is a View menu click, saving the window and then the scope tile.
  • “Where is the Color window?” It opens on Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+C, and Vector — Input Settings on Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+I. Both are keyboard-only.
  • “The Stream Deck entry shows Stream Deck is not installed.” That is the answer, and the entry stays in the File menu either way. Install the Stream Deck application and click it again.
  • “A trial popup appears every time I start.” An expired trial shows its own window on each launch until a key is activated. Enter License Key opens the license manager and dismisses it.
